Accessibility
Updated October 1, 2026
Bomb Pot Solver is built by a very small team, and we want the study tool and this site to work for as many players as possible, including people who use a keyboard instead of a mouse, a screen reader, magnification, or reduced-motion settings. This page says plainly what works today, what does not yet, and how to tell us when something gets in your way.
1. What we aim for
Our target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA for this website and for the app at app.bombpotsolver.com. We are not there everywhere yet. The app is a dense poker study tool, and some of its surfaces (strategy grids, the trainer felt) are inherently visual. We treat each gap below as work to do, not as a reason to stop.
2. What works today
- Keyboard. Every link, button, form field and accordion on this site can be reached with Tab and activated with Enter or Space. A "Skip to content" link appears on the first Tab. Focus is shown with a visible gold outline.
- Trainer hotkeys. In the app, the trainer can be played from the keyboard on desktop: C call, X check, F fold, Z biggest bet, 1 to 9 bet sizes in order, Enter next hand, R repeat the hand. The same legend is printed under the trainer's buttons and in Settings so you never have to guess.
- Focus mode. Focus mode collapses the app's chrome, so a magnified view can give the whole screen to the strategy you are studying; Esc restores it.
- Text, not just color. Card ranks and suits are always written as text (for example Ah for the ace of hearts), and action frequencies are printed as percentages next to their bars. The exact-combo view names the action in words beside each number.
- Contrast. Body text, links and buttons on this site meet the AA contrast ratio against the dark background. The app's main text colors were chosen to the same standard.
- Motion. The site respects the operating system's reduce-motion setting: animations and smooth scrolling are turned off when it is on.
- Images. Screenshots on this site carry written descriptions; purely decorative logos are hidden from screen readers.
- Plain language. The LEARN THE GAME course in the app and the "New to bomb pots?" section of this site explain every term we use, starting from "what's an ante?".
3. Known gaps
- Strategy grids. The 13 by 13 hand grid and the PLO strength tiers are read mostly by color. Each cell has a text tooltip and the exact-combo view lists the numbers, but a full screen-reader path through a grid does not exist yet. A table view of any grid is on the roadmap.
- The trainer felt. Seats, stacks and the two boards are drawn as a table; the current hand state is not yet announced as text when it changes. Hotkeys work, but you still need to see the felt.
- Icon buttons in the app. Some icon-only controls (the close ✕ on floating panels, the menu and profile buttons) rely on a tooltip rather than a proper accessible name. We are adding names to these in the next release.
- Small text. A few monospace labels in the app sit below 12px. Browser zoom works, but we will raise the floor.
- Language. Everything is in English today. Other languages are planned, starting with this site.
4. Tell us
If something blocks you, email support@bombpotsolver.com with what you were trying to do, the device and assistive technology you use, and what happened. A real person reads it, usually the person who wrote the code, and we will tell you what we changed. Accessibility problems go to the front of the queue.
5. How this page is kept honest
We re-test the site and the app with keyboard only and with a screen reader before each release that touches the interface, and we update the lists above when something moves from "gap" to "works". The date at the top is the last time that happened.
